Education at Manchester Jewish Museum aims to bring the Jewish Religion, Jewish History and Culture to life using this beautiful building as an aid to learning.
The Education Service offers comprehensive programme of studies. It is used by Primary and Secondary schools, colleges, universities and for in-service training for teachers. Subject areas include Jewish Religion and Practices, Jewish History, Family Life, the Holocaust, Prejudice and Discrimination. The service is in great demand and early booking is essential. Teaching resources are available, as is a consulting service for teachers and lecturers.
For more details of the schools programme please view the downloads section.
The museum also offers less formal programmes for the church, public service, social and cultural groups that visit. A tolerance programme is being developed on the lines of Tools for Tolerance programmes that are run by the Simon Wiesenthal Centres in New York and Los Angeles. This programme will be of great interest to those in the public services.
The education service also puts on events for the public. Watch the website for details.
For times and dates of our always popular seder demonstrations ,to celebrate Passover, please see out 'What's On' Section.
The Jewish Experience
There is no better to way to learn about someone than to spend the day with them.
This is exactly what The Jewish Experience aims to show you.
The Jewish Experience is aimed mainly at GCSE level or adult groups.
The Jewish Experience is for groups of not less than 10 and not more than 24
You may have seen Jewish people on the television, you may have read about the Jewish faith, but now you can find out how Jewish people within the Manchester community live their daily lives.
The Jewish Experience gives you the opportunity to enjoy a day out around the Jewish community of North Manchester.
The day will be spent
· visiting Jewish shops,
· visiting the new sports centre
· having a delicious Kosher lunch
· visiting a day care centre
The experience will also include a tour of the beautiful Manchester Jewish Museum, where you will learn about the history of the Museum and discuss synagogue worship and the history of Manchester’s Jewish community.
The Jewish Experience is an excellent opportunity to learn about what it is like to be Jewish.
We encourage questions throughout the day, whether it’s about what Kosher means (what can and cannot be eaten), the laws of the Sabbath, or how the Jewish community looks after its elderly.
